Monster party
Monster party is a game application for dyslexic children between the ages of 8-11. The application is composed of six games which help reinforce problems regarding dyslexia and guide them through the maturity phase*. The game gives them the autonomy to work on their own, helping them to think and work in a structured and organised way.
*The maturity phase: This is the second part of the training. After helping the child read and write correctly, he or she has to exercise other problems such as:
THE PROCESS
RESEARCH and PERSONAS
for this project, I spent around three months in a speech therapy center for children with learning difficulties, attending classes with children of the desired target. There I was able to understand the work done by speech therapists and how the learning mechanisms worked. The speech therapists of the center advised me and helped me to validate that the games I developed were adapted to the needs of the children. These are examples of some exercises they work with:
SKETCHING & WIREFRAMING
This is the first wireframe i did, since i was designing for children with learning difficulties, i thought it was important to make the navigation as simple as possible making it linear (only one starting point) and with a maximum of 3-4 levels of navigation
USER TEST
The games and app navigation were validated with several children from the speech therapy center. I also validated it with chilldren without learning difficulties.
character design & others
Here are some of my designs:
GAME DESIGN
Game 01 -Lunch party: Exercises the children’s short term memory, laterality and eye/hand coordination through a lunch competition.
Game 02 - Busy neighbours: classic memory game where children have to match the correct window.
Game03 - Labyrinth: This game exercises the children’s space orientation. They will be able to view the labyrinth for 5 seconds and then move around the space with a limited view.
Game 04 - River rush: Another game, which exercises space orientation. Children will have to move all their characters to the right and the others to the left, employing strategic movements to be able to perform this.
Game 05 - Puzzle album: This game exercises visual perception and mental organisation. Children will have to complete the puzzle by matching all the shapes.
Game 06 - Squareness: This game exercises mental organisation, visual perception and eye/hand coordination. Children will have to draw the same
